About "Look Out Below (Blue)"
Trevor Carlton's Look Out Below (Blue) is a vibrant, energetic fusion of nostalgia and contemporary expression. Rendered in mixed media on canvas, this captivating work showcases Carlton's signature technique of layering bold brushstrokes and dynamic drips over an iconic cartoon subject inviting the viewer into a collision of pop culture and painterly abstraction.
In this playful yet action-packed piece, a stylized Mickey Mouse is captured mid-fall, arms outstretched in comic panic as if breaking free from the page. The saturated palette of primary reds, blues, and yellows contrasts with the sand-hued background, all streaked with dripping lines that suggest motion and chaos. The character's classic form is juxtaposed against modern artistic flourishes, giving the piece a compelling sense of time-warped movement.
Carlton's work often explores the interplay between American iconography and the expressive freedom of contemporary art. Look Out Below (Blue) exemplifies this aesthetic by blending the familiar warmth of classic animation with raw, textural artistry. The result is both nostalgic and fresh?perfect for collectors who appreciate bold, spirited works that command attention and spark conversation.
Ideal for eclectic interiors, entertainment rooms, or pop art collections, this framed canvas delivers both humor and artistic sophistication, making it a standout addition to any space. Firerock Fine Art and Trevor Carlton:

Trevor Carlton, born in 1972 in Olympia, Washington, is an American artist renowned for his distinctive fusion of vintage Americana and contemporary pop art. Initially passionate about acting, he studied at the Lee Strasberg Acting Workshop in Los Angeles. To support himself during auditions, Carlton worked in a custom furniture store specializing in antiquing and faux finishes, where he began painting on reclaimed lumber. This experience led him to develop his signature "distressed" style, characterized by creating the appearance of aged wood and then using solvents and sandpaper to give the piece an overall weathered look. ?Carlton's artwork often features iconic figures from American culture, notably Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse. He has collaborated with Disney Fine Art, producing a series of classic lobby card paintings. Beyond traditional canvas work, Carlton has created performance pieces where he paints large-scale images of beloved Disney characters live, completing them in mere minutes to music. These performances have captivated audiences across the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. ?In 2009, Carlton introduced the "American Vintage Collection," a groundbreaking series that combines hand-distressed canvas appliqu?s with original, hand-painted backgrounds. This innovative approach showcases his commitment to blending nostalgia with modern artistic techniques, solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and influential figure in contemporary art.
