About "Falling Goofy"
Trevor Carlton's Falling Goofy is a vibrant celebration of nostalgic whimsy fused with urban flair. Rendered in his signature mixed media on canvas, this energetic composition captures the beloved Disney character mid-plummet eyes wide, limbs flailing, and hat airborne against a streaked blue and teal background that conveys rapid motion and comedic chaos.
Carlton's technique blends expressive paint drips, spontaneous splatters, and purposeful imperfection with pop-cultural reverence. The painterly streaks that trail vertically through the canvas simulate speed and gravity, adding dimension to Goofy's hilariously exaggerated descent. Bold lines, saturated primary colors, and layered textures draw the viewer into the scene, while maintaining a playful and contemporary aesthetic.
The piece walks a fine line between comic absurdity and refined composition, making it a standout work in Carlton's oeuvre. His use of hand-distressing and dynamic brushwork infuses the piece with a sense of timeworn charm an homage to vintage animation while grounding it firmly in the world of modern collectible art.
Ideal for animation enthusiasts, Disney collectors, or fans of pop-surrealism, Falling Goofy brings a dose of laughter and kinetic energy to any space. Perfect for game rooms, media lounges, or contemporary interiors, this work is as much a conversation starter as it is a nostalgic tribute to timeless storytelling. Trevor Carlton, born in 1972 in Olympia, Washington, is an American artist renowned for his distinctive fusion of vintage Americana and contemporary pop art. Initially passionate about acting, he studied at the Lee Strasberg Acting Workshop in Los Angeles. To support himself during auditions, Carlton worked in a custom furniture store specializing in antiquing and faux finishes, where he began painting on reclaimed lumber. This experience led him to develop his signature "distressed" style, characterized by creating the appearance of aged wood and then using solvents and sandpaper to give the piece an overall weathered look. ?Carlton's artwork often features iconic figures from American culture, notably Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse. He has collaborated with Disney Fine Art, producing a series of classic lobby card paintings. Beyond traditional canvas work, Carlton has created performance pieces where he paints large-scale images of beloved Disney characters live, completing them in mere minutes to music. These performances have captivated audiences across the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom. ?In 2009, Carlton introduced the "American Vintage Collection," a groundbreaking series that combines hand-distressed canvas appliqu?s with original, hand-painted backgrounds. This innovative approach showcases his commitment to blending nostalgia with modern artistic techniques, solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and influential figure in contemporary art.
